A Laugh to Cry explores some of the essential concerns of human beings, transported to our time in the context of a globalized world, formalizing themselves in a reflection on the hegemonic power of destruction of memory, devastationof the Earth while speculating on the collapse of humanity. It’s a cry of freedom against tyranny, against the destructionof Art, against the devastation of the earth, against theomnipresence of arrogance and injustice, against of oppression; it's a glimpse of the loss of humanity, and theforeseen loss of civilisation as we know it.
The opera develops on the border between dream and reality, between the visible and the invisible, between laughter and tears.
A Laugh to Cry with music and multilingual libretto by MiguelAzguime (Portuguese, French, English, and several otherlanguages in the final part) is a metaphysical theatre that putseternal archetypes to music and on stage. The interpretationinvolves five characters, represented by two sopranos, a bassand two narrators (woman and man); 7 acoustic instruments: flute, clarinet, violin, viola, cello, piano and percussion andelectronic media in real time. The staging is based on multiple video projections built in symbiosis between music and text.

Itinerário do Sal - SALT ITINERARY
Salt Itinerary multimedia opera transcends theatrical and music conventions. Reflecting on Art and Madness, it revolves around languages, words as meaning and words as sound. Both are used as an extension of the body and melted in the construction of the staging as a tangible projection of the resonance of the words through sound and image.
Live audio and video electronic processing and diffusion of the voice, poetry, gestures, music and the drawings creates a polyphony of senses and a counterpoint of meanings. Molding sounds, lights, pictures and movements as if being drawn, painted or carved, Salt Itinerary is a powerful, engaging and challenging combination of music and drama by one performer that shapes new grounds in electronic music and breaks boundaries between music, theatre, opera.

“THE LITTLE GIRL WATER DROPLET”
CHILDREN’S MULTIMEDIA INTERACTIVE OPERA
The opera is about the water cycle, it tells a story of a water droplet travel from the sea and back to the sea and all the connections that can be made with nature, education for citizenship, climate change, sustainability and environment.
The opera was designed for all audiences, but also as a pedagogical, interactive and exciting challenge both for the audi- ence and for thechildren participants is a musical and visual work binding contemporary aesthetics with some important matters of the human kind.
The influence of the children as singers and actors/dancers as well as their influence in the visual content through the use of interaction technology are key factors for creating a ludic and playful mood. Paula Azguime virtual scenography option and choice of mixing different inputs (real images, 2D and 3D computer graphics and children drawings) for the staging of the opera proved to be very resourceful in creating dynamic, imaginative and fantastic scenery and to be artistically very prolific and rewarding.
The children drawings, the videos, the representations and its transformations hand in hand with movements/choreog- raphy of the choir contribute to the perception and fruition both of the music and the story. The music, sung by children, joins spoken and singing voices, real-time sound transformations of voice as well as nature and electronic sounds diffused in space.
The choice of the text, being a major text in children’s Portuguese contemporary literature by Papiniano Carlos, focus- ing on a crucial matter of today’s life regarding environment and nature bind with an original composition by Miguel Azguime allowed concurrently carrying out avery close and fruitful dialogue between the story, the music, the visuals, the choir and the narrator and a strong communication with the audience either children or adults.
THE LITTLE GIRL WATER DROPLET was awarded with the National Multimedia Prize - ART & CULTURE 2012 THE LITTLE GIRL WATER DROPLET is nominee of the Young European Award 2013
The opera was until now sung in Portuguese but the text is translated and it can be narrated in other languages, depending on the country where it is performed.
